Researcher – Energy, Climate and Resources Programme
The Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) is seeking a Researcher to join its Energy, Climate and Resources Area.
The successful candidate will contribute to policy-oriented research and analysis on the key challenges of Europe’s energy transition, as well as on strategic and industrial policies related to climate change and sustainable development.
We are looking for a motivated and intellectually curious professional with strong analytical and writing skills, proven expertise in energy and climate issues, and a genuine interest in working in an international and interdisciplinary environment alongside European institutions, research partners, and public and private stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
draft research papers, reports, and policy articles;
contribute to the preparation of proposals for national and European funding opportunities;
support the development and implementation of research projects;
contribute to outreach and dissemination activities;
organise and participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences;
support IAI’s editorial and communication activities.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
Education: Master’s degree, equivalent postgraduate qualification obtained abroad, or PhD in economics, political science, international relations, development studies, diplomacy, or related fields, with a focus on energy and climate issues.
Professional experience: at least 3 years of research experience in think tanks, universities, research centres, or similar institutions, working on energy transition, climate policy, and sustainable development issues. A PhD will be considered equivalent to professional experience.
Strong interest in and understanding of the political, strategic, and industrial dimensions of climate change, the energy transition, sustainable development, and energy security.
Good knowledge of European energy and climate policy frameworks, as well as the geopolitical and economic dynamics shaping the energy transition.
Understanding of energy markets and interest in the technological, industrial, and regulatory challenges affecting the sector.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Strong analytical, drafting, and synthesis skills, particularly in producing policy-oriented research outputs.
Ability and willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary environment in cooperation with European institutions, research partners, and a broad range of stakeholders.
